Nebraska School Choice Scholarship Proposal Advances

A proposed education bill advances again in the unicameral.

It sets aside 10-million-dollars for scholarship granting organizations to award to low-income children looking to attend a private school.

Bill sponsor Omaha State Senator Lou Ann Linehan had originally asked for 25 million dollars, but amended the bill to ten million.

She says the goal of the bill is to give K-12 students in the state a range of education options.

Opponents, including the Nebraska State Education Association, say such money should go to public schools.
