(Des Moines, IA) -- Later this month, an interactive art display is coming to Cowles Commons in downtown Des Moines. It'll be comprised of 15 oversized seesaws of various sizes with lighting and sound. Crews will start installing it April 18th. It's expected to be open to the public May 19th.

“This activation adds to the energy and vibrancy of our region’s Downtown. We encourage residents, employees and visitors to create memories by experiencing this installation in Downtown Des Moines,” said Tiffany Tauscheck, President & CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “Activations such as Impulse add welcome surprises, which help draw more people to discover our city’s amenities while supporting local restaurants and attractions. This strategy is in direct alignment with the Downtown DSM: Future Forward Vision Plan & Action Plan.”

The 15 seesaws of Impulse transform the space with the sound and light emitted when people play on them.

Immersive theater and public art are two sides of the same coin and we are thrilled to present Impulse as part of our free outdoor family events. It will be wonderful to see those young and young at heart become directors of their own experience,” said Brooke Bridenstine, Programming Coordinator for Des Moines Performing Arts.

The activations dates for Impulse will coincide with major Downtown events including the Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines which begins on Saturday, May 4, and Civic Center engagements including MJ playing Tuesday, April 30 through Sunday, May 5.
