(Lansing, IA) -- A northeast Iowa bridge over the Mississippi River is being inspected today because of safety concerns after crews noticed "slight movement" over the weekend.

The Iowa Department of Transportation closed the Mississippi River Bridge at Lansing Sunday, February 25, until the structure can be inspected after they confirmed the bridge did move.

Engineers from the Iowa DOT and other agencies are investigating to find out exactly what is happening and if construction of the new bridge played a part in the movement.

Iowa DOT is using data from monitors that were placed on the bridge during construction throughout the investigation.

It's unclear when the bridge will be reopened.
