Des Moines Zoo Helping Heartbroken Iowans Recover This Valentine's

(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines Blank Park Zoo's hosting a fundraiser aimed at helping heal broken hearts this Valentine's. The zoo's selling sponsorships of fish, named after someone's "ex." The fish will fed to penguins and sea lions. They go thru a lot, roughly 40-pounds of fish per day and nearly 15,000 fish per year.

Donors can sponsor a capelin for $10. The Capelin is a small fish in the smelt family. Donors also have the option to sponsor a herring for $25. Both fish are fed to penguins, seals, and sea lions. Each fish can be named after someone in the zoo's Plenty of Fish in the Sea promotion.

The zoo will send donors a letter congratulating the donor on achieving "closure" over the past relationship, friendship or former worry of some kind.
