Iowa DOT Warning Drivers About Icy Tracks

(Ames, IA) -- The Iowa D-O-T is warning drivers to watch out for icy wheel tracks. The D-O-T says roads and highways may look clear but there are likely tracks, created by snow under warm tires, that melts and refreezes. The D-O-T says the tracks can be hard to see and can be very slick, even on roads that appear to be in normal condition.

The Iowa Department of Transportation reports road conditions have improved, with most roads and highways in northern Iowa in normal winter driving conditions.

Thursday's snowfall, however, created more challenging conditions south of I-80 where many roads and highways are partly snow-covered.
