Major Winter Storm Forces Closures And Delays In The Quad Cities

(Davenport, IA) -- A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. Snow rates of up to an inch per hour are expected throughout today. Blowing snow could cause whiteout conditions especially in rural areas as winds gust as high as 40 m.p.h. this afternoon.

Several cities in the QCA have declared snow emergencies, banning parking on certain streets to allow snow plowing. Vehicles could be ticketed and towed. Check on your cities website for details.

All Bettendorf and Davenport schools, along with Assumption, and Alleman are closed today. East Moline, Moline, and Rock Island schools are on a virtual learning schedule.

So far, just a few flights have been cancelled at Quad Cities International Airport.

Bettendorf is closing the Public Library, Family Museum, and Community Center.

Rock Island is cancelling recycling pickup today, and bumping it back one day the of the rest week.

The Government Bridge is scheduled to be closed to traffic until 2 p.m today for repair work.
