(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Small businesses in Cedar Rapids are adapting. That's what local Chamber of Commerce officials say after recent Census Data showing retail brick and mortar stores declining by 17-percent in Cedar Rapids in the past decade.
"Shops are getting more creative in what they offer, and offering locally made products and local experiences, which keeps customers coming back in their doors," says Brooke Prowty from the Marion Chamber of Commerce speaking with Iowa's News Now.
Cedar Rapids 17-percent decline is five percentage points above the national average of 12-percent.
A Statista survey says 9-percent of consumers will spend their share of the nearly trillion-dollars spent this holiday season strictly online.
