Traffic To Be Disrupted Sunday Morning In Altoona & Bondurant

(Polk County, IA) -- MidAmerican Energy plans to move a very large, transformer Sunday morning in eastern Polk County. There will be several road closures for hours during the process. The truck will get rolling Sunday morning at 7, on 1st Avenue North in Altoona, to NE 62nd Avenue, then west across Highway 65 to the MidAmerican facility on NE 56th Street and 34th Avenue NW.

The City of Bondurant issued this statement:

To ensure the successful and safe transportation of this transformer, the City of Altoona and the City of Bondurant are actively cooperating with MidAmerican Energy. Local law enforcement will be stationed at key intersections to manage traffic, close roads temporarily, and guide the transformer along its route. Once the transformer has passed through a specific area, police and street crews will promptly reopen sections of the route to traffic, followed by closing additional portions as the transformer progresses.

For the safety and convenience of the community, we strongly advise residents and commuters to avoid the designated route between 7 a.m. and Noon on Sunday, November 5. Doing so will help minimize disruptions and facilitate the swift completion of this essential transportation task.
