Ottumwa Police Seek Man Convicted Of Killing Wife

(Ottumwa, IA) -- An Ottumwa man's been found guilty in his wife's murder, but he was not in court to hear his own verdict. Ottumwa Police are looking for 63-year-old Gregory Showalter Senior. A Wapello County jury today found him guilty in his wife's murder in August of 2021. Now he has an arrest warrant for Failure to Appear.

Police say Gregory Allen Showalter is 63 years old. He's 6'2" and weighs 160 lbs. Showalter is considered armed and dangerous.

Showalter was a no-show in court today (Friday). Police say he was last seen walking into a wooded area near his home.

Showalter was also convicted of abuse of a corpse, willful injury and domestic abuse in the death of his wife 60-year-old Helen Showalter.

A sentencing date is set for October 16.
