(Polk County, IA) -- Polk County Attorney Kimberly Graham says a Johnston man used reasonable force, in a shooting this year, that resulted in a man's death. Graham says 27-year-old Dalton Meier used reasonable force to protect himself and others May 9th. Police were called to an apartment complex at 4700 NW 62nd Street at 11:30 p.m. because of a dispute between two neighbors. Officers arrived and found 62-year-old Steve Miller with multiple gunshot wounds. Miller died at the hospital. Miller was reportedly being aggressive and attacked another man with a knife and chased others. Meier pleaded with Miller to stop, but instead he charged at Meier who shot him.

According to Iowa law, an individual may use lethal force if it is deemed necessary to protect themselves or others from injury or harm.
