West Des Moines To Accept Scrap Appliances, Metal

(West Des Moines, IA) -- The City of West Des Moines will accept scrap appliances and metal on Saturday, September 9th. West Des Moines residents may drop off items at the Public Services East facility, 560 S. 16th Street, September 9, from 8 a.m. to 12:00 (noon).

 Items accepted free of charge include scrap metal and items listed below:

Air conditioners, furnaces, washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, water heaters, stovesrefrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, fax machines, copiers, computer servers, computer towers, printers, video gaming systems, VCRs, DVD players, batteries (lead, acid), cell phones, exercise equipment, metal cabinets, metal chairs/lawn furniture, sinks, metal bed frames, riding and walk behind lawnmowers, snow blowers, bikes and tricycles, cameras, pots, pans, blenders, mixers, toasters, vacuums, weed eaters, speakers, stereo systems and fans. 

Televisions and computer monitors will be accepted for a fee ($25/each, regardless of size). Cash or check only.

 

For those who have city provided solid waste pickup, flat screen or tube-style TVs and monitors may be put out for curbside collection by attaching the appropriate $5.00 large item sticker(s). For more information, visit www.WhereItShouldGo.com.

There are some prohibited items, such as anything with food in it, chemicals, garbage, light bulbs, paint, plastics and wood.

 Personnel will be available to assist residents with unloading items. The paper shredding truck will not be at this event.
