Governor Jim Pillen Announces Plans For New State Prison In Lincoln

(Lincoln, NE) -- A new state prison will be built in Lincoln. Today Governor Jim Pillen announced the State of Nebraska will spend $335-million building the prison near 112th and Adams Streets. The plan is for it to replace the current state penitentiary. Pillen says the new prison will have over 1,500 beds, 300 more than the old prison, and about 1,000 staff members. Construction is scheduled to start in the fall of 2024.
