Nebraska Federal Magistrate Named

The U.S. District Court for the federal District of Nebraska announces the selection of Jacqueline M. DeLuca to join the court as a United States Magistrate Judge.

Ms. DeLuca is a graduate of the Creighton School of Law.

She currently runs the North American Consumer Litigation and Pre-litigation Resolution Team for PayPal.

She will take the bench in January, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Magistrate Judge Cheryl R. Zwart.

The federal district of Nebraska has three United States Magistrates, two in Omaha and one in Lincoln.

They are independent judicial officers, serving terms of eight years with potential for renewal.

The court says they are responsible for the management of most pretrial proceedings in federal civil and criminal matters, the trial of misdemeanor cases, and may preside over civil trials with the consent of the parties.
