(Springfield, IL) -- Illinois has secured $2 billion as a contingency fund.

Yesterday, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that the state of Illinois will allocate an additional $138 million to its rainy day fund, which will increase the total amount in the fund to over $2 billion.

Around $25 million comes from Illinois' marijuana tax, and the rest is from state revenue or interest.

Illinois had a rainy day fund of less than $60,000 when Governor Pritzker started in 2018.
