Cedar Rapids Leaders Plan On Applying For Casino Despite Previous Denial

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The city of Cedar Rapids plans on applying for a license to bring a casino to the area.

That's in spite of the city's efforts being denied by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission twice.

The state denied the applications due to concerns of taking revenue away from other gaming centers.

Iowa's lawmakers enacted a moratorium on casino license applications.

It ends in 2024.

Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell plans on applying for a license to build a casino on a plot of riverside land vacant due to previous floods.

O'Donnell says the casino would also include bars, restaurants, and an entertainment venue.
