Bettendorf Police Department Has New Drug Testing Tech

(Bettendorf, IA) -- The Bettendorf Police Department has a new high-tech drug testing device.

The TacticID-N Plus Handheld Raman Spectrometer is a handheld scanner used to test unknown substances.

The $30,000 device was paid for by a grant from the Scott County Regional Authority.

The device is able to give officers results in 10 to 15 seconds.

They say before this, the department had no easy way to test fentanyl.

It can also help police separate counterfeit pills from real prescription ones.
