Iowa Hawkeye Basketball Teams To Play Summer Games In Europe

(Iowa City, IA) -- The Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball team will play games in France and Spain this summer. The team heads to Europe August 5th and returns August 16th.

It's the first overseas trip for the Iowa men since 2017.

The Hawkeyes will spend four days in Paris (Aug. 6-9), three days in Valencia (Aug. 10-12) and three days in Barcelona (Aug. 13-15).

“We are grateful to have the resources available to provide this opportunity for our student-athletes,” Head Coach Fran McCaffery said. “Not only will our players experience different cultures and create lifelong memories with their teammates, but we get 10 extra team practices leading up to the trip. With us adding six new players, I believe this is a perfect time for this opportunity.”

The Iowa women's basketball team will play games in Italy and Croatia in August. the team will visit Amalfi Coast, Dubrovnik, and Naples. The women's team will leave August 4th and return August 16th.

“We are incredibly excited to have the resources and opportunity to expose our program and give our players an opportunity to travel abroad. It will add tremendous value to their life experience, education and allow our team to get practice and game reps we wouldn’t get otherwise,” Head Coach Lisa Bluder said.

The trip will be the first for Iowa since the program visited Spain in the summer of 2019.
