Iowa City, CommUnity Crisis Services Asking For Food Donations

(Iowa City, IA) -- The City of Iowa City and CommUnity Crisis Services are asking for food donations ahead of changes to SNAP eligibility.

"Stuff The Bus" is June 14-18, and community members are asked to fill an Iowa City Transit bus with as much food as possible.

The bus will be at the Waterfront HyVee from 2p.m. to 7p.m. next Wednesday through Friday and 10a.m. to 4p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

CommUnity Food Bank distributes around 6,000 pounds of food to around 200 households daily.

They expect that number to grow to around 8,000 pounds this summer when some families expect to lose SNAP benefits.

A list of most-needed items can be found on the city of Iowa City's website.
