Crews To Use 'Controlled Explosives' To Demolish Old I-74 Bridge

(Bettendorf, IA) -- The old Interstate 74 bridge will be demolished this month.

The demolition contractor for the project will use "controlled explosives" to take down parts of the old I-74 bridge starting Sunday, June 18, weather permitting.

The Iowa Department of Transportation says a temporary closure is planned for the new I-74 bridge and any river traffic below while crews remove the suspension cables and towers.

The river, new bridge, and riverfront path in Bettendorf will be closed for more than 24 hours.

Some areas will be closed for up to 72 hours.
