(Rock Island, IL) -- Rock Island Police say they're seeing an increase in vehicle thefts and burglaries.

They say that Kia and Hyundai cars are specifically being targeted.

The cars are stolen by opening the steering column.

Police say that Kia and Hyundai drivers need to take extra precautions to help combat the crime.

They say the stolen cars are often used in other crimes.
