Moline City Leaders Want To Turn Old Arts Building Into Affordable Housing

(Moline, IL) -- The Moline Housing Authority is wanting to turn the old Manual Arts building into affordable housing units.

The Housing Authority expressed interest to the city council in building 20 units in the complex if approved.

The building near the Central Fire Station has been vacant for years.

Moline Community Development Manager K.J. Whitely tells WQAD News 8 there's a need for 6,500 affordable housing units in the Quad Cities.

The Moline Housing Authority is building 18 new affordable housing units in a complex near the intersection of 12th Avenue and 41st Street, it's the first new housing the organization's been able to build since 1972.
