Jason Jones Pleads Not Guilty In Laurel Murders

(Laurel, Nebraska) -- The man accused of killing four people in northeast Nebraska last summer pleads not guilty this week to four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree arson, and waived his arraignment.

Jason Jones was located at his home the day after four people were found dead inside two separate homes in Laurel, Nebraska last August.

He had to be transported to a hospital to be treated for serious burns that authorities believe he sustained while setting the two homes on fire.

Jones was in treatment for almost three months before he first appeared in court.

His arraignment was scheduled for May 22, 2022 but he instead submitted a plea of not guilty.

His wife Carrie Jones is also charged with first-degree murder and being an accessory in the case.

The victims were a family of three, Gene, Janet and Dana Twiford who lived in one house, and Michele Ebeling who lived in the other.

Jones faces death penalty.
