(Ankeny, IA) -- The city of Ankeny says residents and businesses can register their doorbell cameras or other security systems with the Ankeny Police Department to help identify criminal suspects.
Those who register for the Ankeny Police Department's Crime View program could be contacted if footage from their cameras could help with an investigation. Police would then contact the security system owner and ask for permission to view footage during the time in which the incident occurred. The Ankeny Police Department says it will not have remote access to any registered cameras and says participation in the program is entirely voluntary.
