Vinny Palermo removed as Vice President of the Omaha City Council

(Omaha, NE) -- The Omaha City Council votes to strip Councilman Vinny Palermo of his title of Vice President of the council.

Members voted 5-1 Tuesday afternoon, with only Councilwoman Juanita Johnson voting 'no'. Palermo remains in Saunders County Jail on federal fraud and corruption charges in connection to the misuse of funds from two local non-profits. Last week, the council voted to temporarily strip Palermo of his position.

Efforts to recall Palermo from his council seat have also been set in motion through the Douglas County election Commissioner's Office. Palermo's lawyer says he has no plans to resign from his council seat. Palermo will automatically lose his seat after three months of unexcused absences from meetings.
