TSA Intercepts 3rd Gun This Year At DSM International Airport

(Des Moines, IA) -- TSA officers are reporting they've intercepted another handgun at the Des Moines International Airport Thursday, the third this year.

The Transportation Security Administration said the firearm was loaded with seven rounds, none in the chamber, and the safety was engaged.

The TSA said passengers can travel with firearms, but only if the firearm is unloaded in checked baggage, is packed separately from ammunition in a locked hardback case, and is declared at the airline check-in counter.

The owner could face a penalty of 15-thousand dollars.

TSA officers stopped 15 firearms in Des Moines last year.
