(Polk County, IA) -- Fire damaged at hotel north of Des Moines this (Monday) afternoon. Polk County Dispatch was notified about a fire at the Baymont Inn and Suites on NE 14th Street around 1:20 p.m.
Polk County deputies a couple of minutes later and arrived and found smoke and flames coming from a first floor window. Deputes ran into the building to evacuate rooms but were forced out by thick smoke. Fire crews safely rescued one guest from a second floor window using a ladder. No word yet what caused the fire.
