Des Moines Hiring Summer Lifeguards, Raising Pay, Benefits

(Des Moines, IA) -- The City of Des Moines is trying to hire 250 people for summer jobs, including 120 lifeguards and swimming instructors. Last summer hours at pools were reduced due to staffing shortages. Des Moines has bumped lifeguard hourly pay to $15 per hour. Des Moines is paying for lifesaving certification, offering holiday pay, and a bonus at the end of the season for lifeguards that stay the entire summer. The city is also paying for lifeguards swimsuits.

The city is also hiring season workers to be cashiers and clerks at pools as well work concessions at Gray's Lake. The city is also hiring park maintenance staffers.
