(Scott County, IA) -- Over 80 animals are going to their forever homes after being adopted from the Humane Society of Scott County over the weekend.

A total of 110 animals were moved out of the shelter, with 88 of them adopted over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Thirteen cats and nine dogs were transferred to help with care.

The Humane Society of Scott County says 57 cats, 26 dogs, four rats, and one rabbit were adopted as the shelter discounted adoption fees to just $17 to help its overcapacity issues.

The shelter can hold 71 large dogs at a time but had 90 large dogs and eight small dogs as of March 12.

The Humane Society says that even though 26 dogs were adopted over the weekend, 24 more dogs came into the shelter.

They say people can help out the Humane Society by donating, volunteering, and fostering.
