Multiple Warming Centers Located Throughout the Des Moines Metro

(Des Moines, IA) -- As wind chills drop near 40 below zero, the Des Moines Police department is reminding the community that there are multiple warming centers available throughout the Des Moines metro.

The Des Moines Police Department posted the following warming centers and shelters on its social media:

  • Catholic Charities: 601 Grand Ave - Emergency shelter for families
  • Central Iowa Shelter and Services: 1420 Mulberry St - Shelter for those over age 18
  • Children & Families of Iowa: 1111 University Ave
  • Family Promise of Greater Des Moines: 4114 Allison Ave - Shelter for families with children
  • Hawthorn Hill New Directions Shelter: 3001 Grand Ave - Shelter for families with children
  • Bethel Mission: 1310 6th Ave - Shelter for men only
  • Hope Center: 333 E. University Ave - Shelter for women and children
  • Iowa Homeless Youth Center: 612 Locust St - Shelter for people ages 18-24

Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) is providing free rides to any of these shelters for those in need.
