(Des Moines, Iowa) -- Four Des Moines families are receiving homes built by the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. The homes are located just south of the East Village on Shaw Street. GDM Habitat has built 26 homes in the Des Moines area thus far in 2022. The homes were dedicated with their new families in a ceremony Saturday morning. As part of the Habitat home ownership program, applicants must work 300 to 400 hours in sweat equity, such building or repairing homes or working in Habitat ReStores. Along with this, applicants must attend counseling sessions and classes in regards to home maintenance, taxes, and homeowners insurance.
