Controlled Burns Being Conducted Today at Red Feather Prairie

(Polk County, Iowa) -- If you're seeing smoke in the air west of Ankeny, there's no need to be alarmed.

Park Rangers at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Saylorville Lake are conducting planned, controlled burns today at Red Feather Prairie. The project will include a closure of the Neal Smith Trail from the Visitor Center stretching to Cherry Glen campground. People are advised to avoid the area and not report the smoke to emergency responders.
