DES MOINES, Iowa -- The tree-killing emerald ash borer is found in another Iowa county.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture says the emerald ash borer has been discovered for the first time in Northeast Iowa's Mitchell County, when larvae were collected near Spring Park in rural Osage

The Ag Department says the insect has now been found in 93 of Iowa's 99 counties.

They say the emerald ash borer can kill an ash tree in two to four years after being infested.

The Ag Department says long-range spread of the insect comes from people moving infested material, including firewood.

People are encouraged to use locally-sourced firewood where it will be burned to help limit the spread of EAB.

The insect was first detected in Iowa in 2010.
