Iowa Halting Sales of Russian Booze

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is telling the Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD) to stop the sale of Russia-produced alcohol in the state.

Reynolds' office says it's an effort to demonstrate Iowa's solidarity with Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

Under state law, the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division has the authority to determine the brands of alcoholic liquor products available for sale to retailers.

Alcoholic liquor is sold by ABD to off-premises retailers who then sell the products directly to consumers or to on-premises retailers, like bars and restaurants.

Iowa is one of 17 states that controls the sale of alcohol at the wholesale level.

Governor Reynolds is also calling for Iowa Sister States to end a relationship with Stavrapol Krai, Russia and provide recommendations for enhancing its relationship with Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine.
