DMPS Considering Adding More Holidays, Lengthening School Year

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Public Schools is considering giving students more holidays but shortening summer break. The school district's considering adding Yom Kippur, the Chinese Lunar New Year, and Eid al-Fitr to the holiday calendar. This means the school year would be extended to mid-June and Juneteenth would be a holiday if enough weather makeup days are used. Parents can fill out a survey about the changes on the school district's website until October 31st.
