Local pediatricians in Davenport say there's an increase in young patients with COVID-19.

"We are already seeing this trend without the school opening up so it is going to get worse, as it usually does, with any other infectious illness," says Dr. Deepna Kukreja, a Genesis Health Group pediatrician.

She says the number of hospitalizations of children due to COVID has jumped from last year.

"They are needing more oxygen support, they are having chest pain, there's more worse cough that's happening now. It's a different trend that we are seeing with this new variant of COVID-19."

Kukreja says the best to stay safe is to frequently wash your hands, wear a mask, and get vaccinated as soon as possible.
