Special Election Tuesday For Iowa Senate Seat Vacated By Miller-Meeks

DES MOINES, Iowa - The election for the Iowa State Senate seat vacated by Mariannette Miller Meeks is taking place today.

Democrat Mary Stewart and Republican Adrian Dickey face off after Miller-Meeks resigned to assume her position as a newly elected member of Congress.

Republicans and Democrats held special primaries to select Dickey and Stewart.

They're running to represent Miller-Meeks former district in southeast Iowa. The 41st District includes Wapello, Jefferson, Davis and Van Buren counties.

Mary Stewart of Ottumwa is a retired educator and member of the League of Women Voters. Dickey is a businessman from Packwood.

Polls in the 41st District will be open until 9 p.m. Tuesday. Absentee ballots would have to be postmarked by Monday to be counted.
