Cedar Rapids PD: Vehicles on snow routes will be ticketed, towed

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Cedar Rapids Police have begun issuing citations to people who have vehicles parked along Emergency Snow Routes. Starting tomorrow, vehicles parked in the Snow Routes will be ticketed and towed. Police say they've had a number of complaints about vehicles parked along the Snow Routes.

A Snow Emergency was declared at Noon on Monday, January 25 and has been extended to Noon on Wednesday, January 27.

The city's reminding vehicle owners that in addition to impeding the ability of snow plow operators to effectively clear the entire street, large piles of snow around a parked vehicle create a traffic hazard by both obstructing the view of motorists and creating narrow pathways for motorists to navigate the roadway.

Emergency Snow Routes are designated with street signage and are prioritized for plows to clear due to their high traffic volumes. To view a map of posted Emergency Snow Routes, visit the City’s website:www.cityofcr.com/snow.
