Biggest Winter Storm of Season So Far Headed Into Iowa

IOWA - The biggest winter storm of the season is set to blow through Iowa Tuesday and Tuesday night, with moderate to heavy, wet snow accumulations across much of the state.

There'll mainly be 4-8 inches, which will initially be snow Tuesday, then a wintry mix with freezing rain into Tuesday Night. There is still some uncertainty with the location of the heaviest snow axis.

Currently, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 9 am Tuesday until 9 am Wednesday for Des Moines, Ames and Waterloo. A winter storm watch is in effect for the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area as well as the Quad Cities and Dubuque from noon Tuesday through noon Wednesday.

Tree damage and power outages are possible, especially in warning areas, due to wet snow and the total amount of precipitation

There'll likely be a widespread wintry mix and light glaze possible Tuesday night. Ice amounts approaching one-tenth of an inch are possible from southwest to northeast Iowa.

Snow should transition to a wintry mix, including light freezing rain by the late afternoon or evening hours Tuesday.
