ASBURY, Iowa - A man from northeastern Iowa remains a U.S. citizen after a judge dropped Denaturalization charges against him.
Eso Razic was accused of committing serious crimes while a prisoner during the Bosnian War in the mid-1990s, and of not making the US aware of the crimes when filing to become a US Citizen.
Federal charges claimed Razic was a member of the Croatian Defense Council and killed two people while trying to flee his home country of Yugoslavia.
A judge has now ruled prosecutors had insufficient evidence against him, which allows Razic to remain in the U.S. with his wife and kids who also came as refugees.
The charges were brought against Razic in 2018. He told KCRG-TV he can now sleep at night because his name has been cleared. One of his attorneys said there were people who died, but Razic was not involved in any of it.
