Arrest made in Iowa Capitol Complex shooting

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Madison County man is facing attempted murder charges after a shooting at the Iowa State Capitol Complex.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Michael McKinney, 25, of St. Charles was arrested Sunday night.

A criminal complaint in the case says a confrontation between a gathering of people in the parking lot of the Lucas State Office Building Sunday afternoon led up to the shooting.

The DCI says the 15-year-old female victim was shot in the leg. The wound was not life-threatening.

The complaint also says McKinney admitted to police that he shot at a vehicle driving through the parking lot.

McKinney is in the Polk County Jail.
