Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds Shifting Focus to Vaccine Distribution

DES MOINES, Iowa - Governor Kim Reynolds is holding a press conference at 11 am Thursday, where the focus will be on COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

The gathering comes as Britain became the first country to greenlight a vaccine for injection Wednesday - the Pfizer inoculation.

The F.D.A. has scheduled a meeting next Thursday (December 10th) for an independent panel of experts review Pfizer’s vaccine.

Hospitals and health care providers across Iowa are gearing up to distribute the vaccine, although it's not known how many doses will initially be delivered to the state.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says its first allocations will be very small and prioritized for people in high risk groups.

The CDC this week recommended that the first doses be prioritized for health care workers and nursing homes.
