Des Moines Schools to Start In-Person Classes Monday

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Johnston and Bondurant-Farrar school districts begin moving to all in-person classes next Monday.

Meanwhile, the Des Moines district will have its very first in-person classes today after conducting all online classes so far this fall.

Pre-school students will be in classrooms four day a week beginning today, while K-through 5th grade starts in-person classes next Monday.

The Des Moines district could face penalties for breaking state requirements to start school with half of all classes in-person.

The school board ultimately decided to conform with those guidelines, and has implemented a combination of online and in-person classes.

Middle school starts classroom instructions on October 26th, while high school returns November 10th.

The district is requiring students and staff to wear face masks, unless outdoors. All meals will be eaten in classrooms.

Des Moines students are still able to opt for 100 percent online learning.
