DES MOINES, Iowa - A decision could come Tuesday on a lawsuit against the state by Des Moines Public Schools.
A Polk County judge has said he could announce whether he'll at least temporarily block the state's requirement for in-person classes.
The Des Moines district's lawsuit claims Iowa law gives local school boards the power to make classroom decisions.
All of the district's 33,000 students are starting class today entirely online.The state has said schools that defy its requirements will not get credit for classroom hours.
State requirements call for half of all classes to be conducted in-person if county COVID-19 positivity rates are below 15 percent.Polk County currently has a positivity rate of 9.5 percent.
The Iowa City school district has also filed a lawsuit along with the state's largest teacher's union against the state over local control of education decisions.
