Grinnell College National Poll Shows Biden Leading Trump

GRINNELL, Iowa - Central Iowa's Grinnell College is out with a new national poll showing Joe Biden leading President Donald Trump in November's election.

The survey conducted at the end of August (August 26-30) with polling firm Selzer & Company shows Biden with a 49-41 percent lead.

Biden’s support is strongest among women (56-34%), including a better than 2-to-1 margin among suburban women (64-31%). Biden also has a wide advantage among non-white voters (64-23%) and those who live in larger metropolitan areas (56-30% for Biden among city dwellers, 58-35% among those from the suburbs).

In addition, Biden has a 20 point lead among moderates (55-33 percent), and a 10 point lead among independents (44-34 percent).

President Trump holds a better than 2-to-1 advantage among white men without a college degree (64-31%) and is ahead with white women without a college degree (52-43%). Trump dominates with rural residents (58-36%) and evangelicals (63-27%).

The poll shows a drop in President Trump's approval rating (42 percent vs. 46 percent in March), although he remains above 50 percent (52 percent) for his handling of the economy.

It also shows some concern about voter fraud with absentee ballots (4 in 10 voters), especially among Republicans (52 percent) and Trump supporters (57 percent).

Results of the Grinnell-Selzer poll are based on the 827 likely voters in the 2020 general election have a maximum margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
