A Des Moines is now facing manslaughter and other charges for a crash that killed his wife in March, after toxicology reports showed he was abusing prescription medication.
45-year-old Matthew Harker has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and 1st Offense OWI. Police say he ran a red light at the intersection of SW 9th Street and McKinley Ave back on March 31st. Harker hit two vehicles at the intersection.
His wife, 56-year old Charla Harker, died of her injuries later at a metro hospital.
This week, Des Moines Police announced that toxicology evidence reveal Harker was under the influence of prescription drugs that weren't prescribed to him at the time of the accident.
Two other people involved in the crash were not injured.
