Severe weather possible across much of Iowa through Friday

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Severe weather's possible across much of Iowa through late in the day Friday.

The National Weather Service says there is a slight to marginal risk for severe thunderstorms over Northern and Central Iowa late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Through the day Friday, the Weather Service says there's an enhanced risk for severe weather in East-Central and Eastern Iowa, and a slight risk over North-Central, Central, and South-Central Iowa.

Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and the Quad Cities are under that marginal risk Friday, while Des Moines and Ames are under a slight risk.

The National Weather Service says the main threats throughout Friday are heavy rain, large hail, and damaging winds. They say a tornado can't be ruled out.

Stormy weather on Friday should give way to cooler weather through the weekend.
