WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa home sales last month are down nearly 20 percent.

The Iowa Association of Realtors says 3,646 houses were sold in May--down 900 from the 4,546 sold in May of 2019.

The Association says the sales drop, like much of the rest of the economy, comes from concerns associated with COVID-19.

So far in 2020, home sales are down 0.8 percent.

As for home sales prices, Realtors say May’s median price was 9.5 percent higher at $185,000, compared to $169,000 last year.

The Iowa Association of Realtors also says houses sold faster last month than in the same month a year ago, spending an average of 61 days on the market-- 9 percent faster than 67 days in May 2019.
