Iowa Medical Community Tracking First Iowa COVID-19 Related Child Illness

Iowa - The Iowa medical community is keeping a close eye on a new COVID-19 related illness specifically affecting children.

There's been one case of multi-system inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) in children reported in Eastern Iowa, and a report published by the Centers for Disease Control says the condition is linked to COVID-19 coronavirus.

The CDC says it's currently unknown if the condition is specific to children or if it also affects adults. Several pediatric doctors reported the first case in Iowa on Friday. They did not release any information about the patient or say exactly where the first case was reported.

At least three young people have died in New York, where more than 100 cases have been reported, according to NBC News. Symptoms of MIS-C include a sustained fever over several days, severe stomach ache and rash.
