Iowa has 279 New COVID-19 cases, 10 additional Deaths

DES MOINES, Iowa - The state's reporting 279 new cases of COVID-19/coronavirus and 10 new deaths as of Saturday.

The total number of positive cases is now 14,328, while there have been deaths in Iowa due to the virus.

There have been 93,556 COVID-19 tests conducted in Iowa.

There were 2,744 new tests reported. Governor Reynolds said last week that with the validation of the TestIowa program by the State Hygienic Lab, tests would ramp up to 5,000 per day - 3,000 by TestIowa and 2,000 from the Hygienic Lab.

The 10 new deaths is nine short of a daily reported high mark of 19.

The rate of positive tests has inched down from 15 percent Friday to 14.9 percent Saturday. The state reports that 1-in-33 Iowans has been tested and 1-in-219 has tested positive.

There are 387 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Iowa, with 128 patients in ICU. A total of 83 people are on ventilators. All three of those numbers are down slightly from Thursday.

There have been 6,927 COVID-19 recoveries in Iowa, an increase from 6,231 Thursday. The state's recovery rate is 48 percent.

The positive COVID-19 cases reported by the health department represent diagnosed individuals, not necessarily the total number of cases in the state.
