Iowa Movie Theater Delivering Popcorn To Customers

A movie theater in DeWitt, Iowa is delivering free popcorn to people affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

KWQC-TV6 reports the DeWitt Operahouse Theater has started to offer its popcorn for carry-out and door-to-door delivery.

“I knew it was coming,” says theatremanager Laura Miers. “I was also worried about what we were going to do. We are a small business.” Because of the coronavirus the theatre was forced to stop showing movies.

She tells KWQC-TV 6 they got the idea after people kept posting on the their Facebook page saying they were craving its popcorn. She decided the theater should start doing carry-out and deliveries so customers could have their popcorn and her employees could still have money coming in.

“When I was taking the deliveries I thought this is a great opportunity to bring happiness to people when everybody is so upset about everything,” Michelle Martens, a part-time cashier at the theater, told KWQC.

Jennifer Morel is one customer who ordered a delivery. “The theatre is a small business in this town. It’s been going for a long time. It’s an old theatre and we like to keep money flowing into it during this bad time.”

The theater has been in DeWitt for over 140 years. Customers can also order their favorite soft drink and candy.
